Where ceilings are at high altitude, the suspension of acoustical islands will contribute to a better sound environment.

Acoustical islands, in the form of sound absorbing free hanging units, can also be used as supplement in environments where absorbing ceilings do not provide sufficient absorption. In this way the acoustic environment can be improved with a reduction of the sound level and sound propagation.

In office premises where, for various reasons, a fully covering suspended ceiling cannot be used, such as in thermally activated buildings (e.g. with concrete core activation) absorbent islands is one way of creating acceptable acoustic environments.

Absorbent acoustical islands can be designed as free hanging units (Ecophon Solo™ Square or Ecophon Focus™ Wing), baffles (see Ecophon Master™ Baffle) and complemented with vertically installed units (see Ecophon Wall Panel™), thus improving the sound environment.
