Activity
A meeting room is important in terms of communication, both internally and externally. The design of the meeting room can effectively communicate the company's values. A meeting room hosts meetings where everyone around the table must be able to hear and be heard, making speech clarity a crucial element. Good sound insulation is also necessary in order to achieve privacy.
Room Acoustics
To create a pleasant sound environment and achieve good speech clarity the acoustic ceiling needs to have high sound absorption. If the room is used for video conferencing, sound absorption has to be of particularly high quality in order to optimise the sound transmission. If the distance between the speaker and the listener is more than 10 metres, it may be necessary to install sound reflecting ceiling surfaces, to allow the sound from the speakers voice to reach all listeners.
Wall-to-wall sound reflection can be percieved as disturbing and have a negative impact on speech clarity. Absorption on at least one of the walls is thus recommended.
Privacy requirements are usually high in meeting rooms, meaning that both walls and doors must have a high level of sound insulation. Good speech clarity requires an acoustical ceiling with sound absorption class A. Additional low-frequency absorption may also be necessary in some cases.
